Here's my situation. I have a Dell Latitude with Windows 2000 Professional. There is a sticker on the bottom of the laptop is the product key for Windows XP Professional. I recently acquired a Dell Reinstallation CD. What do I need to do change to XP pro, and how do I go about it?

thanks in advance,
Jacito

Make sure you data is backed up, insert XP Pro CD, restart the computer, hit any key when it asks you to, format c:, install windows xp pro, give it the key on your laptop, install AV, restart, install drivers, restart, install updates, restart, install more updates, restart, install anti-malware, restart, install your programs, restart since one of them will want you to, wait about a week, install SP3, restart.

I'd install the drivers before installing any software.

I like this order: Drivers: Chipset, Video, Network (wireless and wired), Sound; then install AV/Firewall; connect to internet and install all necessary updates to Windows/AV/Firewall.

Yeah definitely install chipset drivers before ANYTHING else. Also, make sure your boot priority is set to your optical drive in the bios.
