my laptop has loose wiring with LCD. what kind of estimate should i expect for a repair?

my laptop has loose wiring with LCD so it basically shows nothing on the screen when the LCD is less than 60 degrees with the keyboard. i know its just loose wiring coz if i fiddle with it, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. what kind of estimate should i expect for a simple repair like this?

why dont you take it apart and fix it yourself? get a multimeter and start testing wires when the lcd is at a point where it doesn't work. or maybe it's just loose at the harness if you're lucky..

i had a user with an out of warranty gateway, and had problem where the hinge bet. laptop kboard and lcd was broken off and exposing the ribbon cable for the lcd, the lcd was on and off etc. this was about 500.00.

i had another user with the lcd totally dead, didn't know if it was the cable or the lcd until you send it to IBM, and the bill was 950.00 bucks, also cuz outta warranty.

I have to move my screen back and forth a couple tines often to get the display to show up. It's my work laptop though and i guess I still have two years to get it covered under warranty.

If it is just a loose cable then it is pretty cheap. That happened to my laptop and it only cost the estimate fee (about $40) as nothing was really broken, the cable was just loose.

You will have to call to service centes for you laptop to find out what an estimate would cost. Depending on the service center, you can expect additional labor costs to replace the harness (if it is bad) plus the price of the harness $45-90. If the harness is just coming loose, then use some fiber tape and tape the harness down to the LCD (especially by the connector on the LCD).

no, its a compaq presario 1260. bought it in spring 1999 so its way out of warranty.
