My laptop doesn't resize the screen....wtf?

I got a dell Inspiron 2650..

So, during windows start up logo, serious sam 2, sof 2, and just any game that changes the resolution rather than 1024x768 ... the screen does not resize but it just makes a smaller recantangle on the screen... its quite weird and it started happening few weeks ago.. but it didn't concern me since i used an external monitor.... but when i brought this to my friends house to play some lan games... the screen would just not adjust on the lcd!

any help before i have to play with the dell technical support people?

why not just set serious sam 2 and sof2 to use a higher resolution like hmm 1024x768. The problem is you dont really want it to resize, cuz unlike on CRT's the resizing is not a good thing, it ends up streching the picture when you run it out of native resolution for the lcd

i can't run it high... it will lag cuz i only got a gf go 16mb vid card in there

it used to not do this..

There is a Fn key combination to stretch it. It's Fn+F7 on my i4100.
