My roommate used to be fun. He used to hang out, drink a few beers, meet people, go to parties and all that other good stuff with me. Now he just says "I dont like fun" and sits in the room grabbing himself and watching star trek (nothing against star trek, I like it also). I even am getting people to come over to our place tonight and he says, "I am just going to go watch tv or something." Damn he sucks now.

I never said he was bad or anything... he just needs to stop avoiding fun like it was bad or something. Hang out instead of intentionally leaving when something is going to happen, you know?

Do what NFGTI did...sit him down and talk to him about it, following a well written, word-for-word script that you had previously typed out. ;)

From one of GTI's roommate threads...
<<I've decided that I am going 'Joe Cool' when I try to talk with him again tonight. I'm not going to get in his face until I can get him to stay put and listen. I invision that we can both sit at the kitchen table and talk this out. 'B.R.' is 'Bitch roommate', 'C' is me- Chris. I plan on opening it by;

C: <takes sip of coffee, gently sits mug down on table>

C: "Mike, do you know about people networking?"
B.R.: "No, I'm a dumbass who does nothing but listen to Eminem and hang out with piss poor friends"
C: "It's about developing a large group of people with connections. Whether this be here on the University campus, in business, or even someone at a tire store who can get you a discount on a new set of Pirelli's. You keep these people close and refer and consult with them when you need a favor done or vise versa. They can become great assets in life."
B.R.: "Yeah, so?"
C: <takes another sip of coffee>
C: "I keep lots of people close for this reason and it has paid off in dividends already. I have no beef with or grudges against anyone, nor does anyone else I know of have it with me. <starts to get slightly more agressive> YOU are the first person I have held a grudge against since Derrick Davis back in the 4th grade- well over a decade ago. I thought about staying a 'nice guy' and letting you use stuff to keep you as a node in my 'people network', but then I realized you don't have a friggin thing to offer me in life. You are useless in my personal network of folks! <insert computer nerd bottleneck analogies here if you wish> So on that note, I don't have any reason to not come down on you and give you a piece of my mind. I'd like to start off saying that you've pissed me off one too many times, mainly starting with your guests (an African American guy and girl, btw- about 18 years old I suppose) you brought here last week...."

um.... so what if he wants to hang around and watch tv? That's his choice and its his life, not yours.

Some highlights of my roommate, junior year:

-first day: asked me to shave her head with a straight razor
-moved in about 25 boxes, never unpacked most of them
-went binge shopping ***every week*** with Daddy's credit card, left worn clothes in musky piles on the floor, never washed them. By mid-semeser piles filled entire small room!!!! I am not even slightly exagerrating, and they smelled because they were never, ever washed. Not even once. When I asked her to clean or shift things to *her* side, threats and screaming
-had a gun, threatened suicide or murder often (I knew it would take her 15+ minutes to dig it out of her garbage mounds so I felt a little bit safe)
-would scream and throw fits all the time so I avoided the room (came home from library at 2am, slept, left before she awoke)
-claimed to be hetero, but I came home one night at 2am and she and a scary woman were in MY BED (hers was too dirty apparently)/the lesbian/bi thing would not have been an issue but I wish she would have told me and done the acts in her own bed
-had a gigantic picture of Sting on the ceiling and positioned it so it looked like it was staring at me all the time/refused to move it

the residence Hall Advisor did not give a f%xor, and because I was on scholarship I could not afford to move

see, yours has a way to go

;)
