Ok dudes and dudettes, this is what happened.

I've got a Hercules 3d prophet 4500 64mb, and a couple months ago the stock fan died when I moved my comp to another room. I replaced it with a blue orb, and it all worked fine except for in PhotoShop 6.0 when a scrolling marquee bounding box came on...... Then there were random horizontal intereference lines until I stopped the marquee. No big deal, but WTF?

Anyways, a week ago I was swapping cards with my buddy for some benchmarking action, and I noticed that my hack job of getting the blue orb to fit wasn't working, and the orb wasn't even touching the gpu..... no problems yet though.... So, what I did is take the clip form the stock fan, an old 486 Heatsink, and the fan off the blue orb, and made my own HSF! It worked pretty damn good, and I even put thermal grease between it and the gpu. I made sure that the slightly larger Heatsink wasn''t touching any other parts too. It was pretty close, but it wasn't making contact.

So this ran fine, no problems. I figured that I was fed up with this card anyways, so I decided to Overclock it. I Overclocked to 185/185, 190/190 etc. There was no problem at first, but then the same horizantal lines started showing up..... but oddly only in 3d games, never in windows. They started out minor, but at this stage, the screen is unreadable, and games are unplayable.

So, since the card is screwed, we just took it out of my system, I borrowed a Gf3 ti 200, and we put it in another system.

Another weird thing is that right now the card it running without fan, with just the bare stock heatsink on it. Just a good card blower and it runs perfect in windows.

I'm not so stressed about this, because A) that card was the weakest part of my system. B) it was pissing me off and C) I just bought a RADEON 8500 that comes in two days!

So, did my card overheat and I cooked the ram or is it just screwy? Thanks guys.

::Blinks:: Poor little misfortunate Kyro. :( Sounds like you fudged it pretty good seeing as none of that has ever happened to me. (Don't have photoshop though). I'd have been wondering why the fan died, and prolly would have replaced just the fan if possible, but that's me. Oh well, poor lil Kyro's pretty much dead for anything useful now, might as well shoot it and put it out of it's misery.

The kryo II's had very little headroom for o/c most people were having difficulty getting an extra 10%, sounds like your memory is f*cked.
