My kitty has nightmares!

As my cat gets older (she's ~14) she's getting pretty excentric. She does the usual "chasing mice in her sleep" stuff, but now she's started crying in her sleep.

She will also (occasionally) get up and come running over to me and crying like crazy.

Funny stuff.

Aww...I'd imagine that's gotta be the cutest thing ever.

seems more sad than funny. are you able to console her? maybe she is having memories of her long lost brothers and sisters that were born in the same litter. what does a crying cat sound like, anyway?

I think I read somewhere that the "chasing mice in their sleep" thing is actually physical manifestations of nightmares, so she may have had them reguarly all along, and they just got worse if she's now crying out when asleep.

dreaming is normal for many animals.

my cat used to kick, claw and make strange sounds when she was dreaming. I thought it was hilarious.

My dog did the same thing.

Move, make a little bark, cute stuff ya know?

my dog (she was 17 when we put her down this fall) had as long as i remember had dreams.. you could just see her twitch in her sleep, and her eyes (under eyelids) would roll around, like us in REM.
but what was so adorable, and so saddening to hear, was when she'd start wimpering in the nightmares. i'd be afraid to see what they are actually dreaming about if they are wimpering. what if they are remembering other dogs they've come into contact with, or there mother or something? awww.... probably just a squirrel, but dogs are very smart so it could be more intellectual than simply a dream of chasing a squirrel.

hmmm, now u got me thinking 😉

i miss my dog and her dream wimpers.. she was cute as hell... and how i hate puppy commericals cuz it makes me want another dog, but no one is home to help train her 🙁

we all know cats are smart enough for those kind of memories 😉
just kidding
but seriously, dogs are smarter
😀
j/k it is one of those mysteries that i hope we can some day get into the mind of an animal and display its vivid memories and dreams on a projector 🙂
