About two weeks ago I found a young long haired calico kitten on my doorstep that had been hit by a car.
She stopped hissing at me as soon as I picked her up and started purring immediately.
I nicknamed her Annie just like ll orphan Annie... Cheezy I know but...
She as too cute. Couldn't bear to take her to the pound. Took her to the vet the next day. She immediately made friends with all the staff. The doc reported that she had two broken legs, needed major urjery but had a pretty positive prognosis. Of course no promises.
She stayed there for 4 days, coming home a week ago. When she came home, she was meowing and purring all the time. I was spending 4 or 5 hours a day with her. She wasnt strong enough to do anything for herself... I fed her, bathed her, gave her water and her medicine. She was going beack to the vet for checkups every other day...
The vet got really worried about her muscles atrophying from lack of use, so we were giving her several hours of motion therapy a day. She really seeemed like she was starting to benefit from it Sunday + yesterday.
Around Saturday, she started to get a little congested... Sneezed a lot. Unfortunately this was getting worse. The vet was somewhat worried about it, but they were going to be closed today so he thought it best she stay with us. She was already taking 2 antibiotics so there wasnt much else he could give her for respiratory problems.
She seemed like she was really struggling to breathe last ngiht, but was still breathing and meowing... Slept next to me on a heat pad. I took her downstairs wrapped in a blanket. Offered her some food and water but she wasnt interested.
Took her to the dining room table and held her. Cuddled her and looked at her eyes looking really glassy. She was barely breathing. Set her down on her heat blanket and she went limp.
I'm really sad. I'm amazed at how attached to animals you can get in such a short period of time. Shame I spent all of my xmas money on getting her well.
At least she died knowing someone cared for her.
