My Keyboard Works When It Wants To (RH & Win2K)

I've got an old Compaq with a 475 AMD K6 II, 256MB Ram, and PS/2 ports for the mouse and keyboard running RH6.2. Last night I installed an IOGear KVM switch between that machine and a Dell 1400SC (RH7.3). Everything works fine on the Dell side, but when I go over to the Compaq side things turn ugly.

What Works:

Booting RH with the KVM keyboard and mouse

What Works Half Way:

Install Windows 2K Pro I am able to hit any key to get it to boot from the cd, but when it got to the fresh / repair install no keys will work including Ctrl+Alt+Dlt.

What Doesn't Work At All:

Using the pre KVM Compaq keyboard to try to load the Windows CD or to login to RH.

Anyone have any ideas? I've seen alot of weird things in my computing days but this beats them all.

What do you mean by that? If it dosn't work when the KVM is removed, then why mention the KVM at all? Or do you mean you're connecting the old keyboard through the KVM?

My best guess would be that the electical connections are not quite up to snuff in the KVM itself.

I'm talking about not using the KVM at all. I plugged the old keyboard that was working fine all those years into the computer and nothing works on it.

Did you plug it in when the computer was already running? PS/2 is not hotplugable (although you can commonly get away with it)
