Something happened to my Toshiba A45-S150 laptop that has rendered it unusable. All buttons seem to be in the ALT mode. If I hit "B" then the "Bookmarks" menu opens up in firefox. If I hit F then the "File" menu opens. Because of the "ALT" effect, I'm unable to type anything into the google search field. The exact same thing occurs when trying to use an external Logitech USB keyboard. So whatever the problem is, it's not limited to just the keyboard hardware.
I'm unable to open Firefox with the mouse pad & desktop icon. Double left clicking the desktop icon brings up the properties window of the icon. It's the equivalent of:
Right click --> properties
On a normal computer. Right clicking seems to work the way it's supposed to but the menu that opens up sticks around for only a fraction of a second.
So I tried re-installing Windows XP. When the computer says "Press any key to boot from CD" any key (including R and ENTER) seems to work. However, when windows installer asks me to press:
ENTER - to install windows
R - to Repair
F3 - to quite
The only key that seems to work is F3. I know the ENTER and R key are functional as either one of those keys will activate the 'boot from CD' sequence. Why they don't work during the Win XP installation is a bit of a mystery.
Any ideas?
