My JVC camcorder

I have a roughly 4-5 year old JVC camcorder and am trying to transfer video to my computer for editing.

Today when tinkering with it, the playback on the LCD was terrible, white tearing lines, etc. I had hooked it up to my TV via the typical white and yellow cables, and the result was the same.

But, when playing the videos in a VHS adapter, the quality is fine.

When i transfer the video, will it be corrupted and torn?

What other options do i have for my delema?

I am trying to compile a video collage, so it is kind of important to me.

Please help.

**edit** the i plan on transfering via s-video, but please give me some other suggestions.
