My jump to Intel...need some help please.

Im jumping on the C2D bandwagon, so I need some help.

This is what Ive been looking at:

Intel Core2Duo E6420

EVGA 122-CK-NF63-TR

Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB Kit DDR2-800 XMS2-6400

After rebates and 2-day shipping this would cost me $495.98

Does this look good...or have I gone overboard on anything? Id like to spend as little as possible and still be able to OC this CPU as much as possible on air cooling.

If someone could recommend a good CPU cooler and a PSU (i dont think mine will handle this) this would help also.

Thank you'll for your help.

If you're aren't planning on going SLI, then you're better off getting a board based on the Intel P965 chipset, which are great for overclocking (you'd also save a bit of money too).

Nice looking PSU there....gonna look up some reviews. Thanks.

So...if I went 965...what MB would you'll recommend? Ive been using the nvidia chipset for so long, Im clueless on everything else.

Thanks guys.

EIDT ** ClubIT has it for $105.99 shipped. Even better!

EDIT**
What about this DFI board?

Or this one?

I also found this one but Im wondering what warranty I would have with ASUS if I buy an open box from Newegg. And will this come with that optional fan since it's open box?

Ok...so the E6600 is $199.99 at Fry's with Free Shipping...so Im probably going to go with that now 😛

Looks like Ill go with the Gigabyte DS3 Rev3.3 for the motherboard

The Enermax modular $89.99 at ZZF in the Hot deals section looks good for PSU.

Memory is still up in the air....just so many choices.

Will this Enermax 620W PSU be fine to handle:

E6420 (most likely will OC)
2x1GB PC6400 DDR2
XFX 7800GT
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 1.3)

and the 4 hard drives in my sig?

If someone has a better suggestion...please post.

Thank you.

I use enermax ps's in all of my machines because they've been good to me over the years. The liberty 620 is a nice unit with the modular cabling. I put one into my sons machine when I built it and it's nice. I have noisetakers in my other two machines and they've been the best I've used.

PSU recommendation.

Wow it only has 18 or 16Amps you can use at one time. That really sucks.

Who said you only use one at a time? I was under the impression that all the rails are used in unison (sp?)

Also what do you'll think of this OCZ memory? Looks like a pretty good deal AR.

Well..I have ordered these items so far

Intel E6420 for $189.00 @ mwave.com
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Rev 3.3 for $116.48 @ mwave.com
Crucial Ballistix 2x1GB PC6400 for $99.99 AR @ buy.com

I missed out on the Enermax Liberty 620W modular PSU for $89.99 AR...but I thought I saw somewhere that had it or something just as good for $94.99 and NO rebates..just cant remember what/where it was.

Also, still trying to decide whether to get the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 or something else. I can get the Freezer for just over $28 shipped from Directron.com.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks guys.

Good choices; that memory is great. The Enermax 620 will be more than enough for what you need. If you're looking to overclock just a bit, the Freezer 7 should be okay, but for more than 3Ghz I'd pick up something better performing.

I like Zalman HS/F's to be honest. My newer PC is so quiet that I can't even hear it and temps are good. They aren't the cheapest but they also aren't too expensive. My old Thermalright + separate Pana-flo fan was more expensive than my Zalman and it's definitely noisier 😛.

I ended up going with an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 from ewiz.com for $22.00 shipped. It will do fine for the speeds Im looking at hitting.

Should be here today or tomorrow.
