MY issues with UPS...

This is my first off topic post so please bare with me...

I had a packaged delivered today at 4 PM but no one was here to receive it. So not knowing UPS's policy on pick-up, i went down to the UPS center around 545 to pick up my package (it closed at 6). The guy there tells me that you can't pick up a package EVEN IF IT'S THERE unless you call their 800 number. But even though it closes at 6, you can come by between 730-8 to pick it up which i thought, 'okay fine, i'll go pick it up then.' he says that when i call the 800 number to request a same day pick up.

so i leave a little disgruntled because i had to drive a good distance to get to this place and then drive back (30 minute round trip). so around 740, i make my way to the UPS center to pick it up. i get there around 755, wait for about 5 minutes for this other guy and then i tell him that i have to pick a package up... the guy checks his list and sees i'm not on it. so he calls the lady in charge and she takes my notice and goes away for like 10 minutes. a different lady shows up with a print out of the tracking of my package and says that i requested a WILL CALL which means that i can pick it up TOMORROW!!! and at this point, i'm angry... wasted an hour driving back and forth to leave for home empty handed... well the lady there was like, ' maybe you called too late so they put it down as a will call for tomorrow ' and i said, ' no, i specifically told him that i'd pick it up today ' .....

so as i drove home, i called the 800 number again and asked why the person i spoke to put it in as a WILL CALL... and she checks and says that it was put in as a SAME DAY WILL CALL... so it should have been there for me to pick up today....

so i filed a complaint with the UPS center AND i have to go back to pick it up tomorrow...

Lesson learned:

NEVER REQUEST UPS TO DELIVER MY STUFF

at least with Fedex, if you miss a package, you can go to their center after a specified time and pick up with no hassles.

FEDEX > UPS

fedex will always pwn ups.

My friend and I ordered Matrix Reloaded posters awhile ago. I got mine the first time, but it tooks UPS THREE GD TIMES FOR THEM NOT TO CRUSH THE POSTER. Everytime my friend had to go through the hassle of calling WB and UPS and getting a new one. They kept on crushing the poster casing, which is rather hard to crush. Idiots. :|

I still like UPS over fedex...
my packages don't look like gorillas used them as boxing practice, and the drivers are smarter (at least my ups drivers vs fedex)

plus I don't like how theres fedex air, fedex freight, fedex ground, etc, all of which do NOT talk to each other at all

but hey, to each their own!

🙂

Both UPS and FedEx break packages once in a while... sorry, that's shipping. If you don't like it, pay the extra $$ for overnight or shut up. I'm tired of you fools comparing FedEx Air to UPS Ground.

sorry... i was ranting... that what happens when i rant... grammar goes out the window...

oh and another thing i like about FEDEX is that they deliver at the same time... i can expect a package around 1-130 PM from them whenever i order anything from places like newegg...

b/c diff fedex carriers drive diff routes at diff times the "stuff" comes in at all different hours vs UPS everyday 3:30 past my house.....

SOMETIMES SH*T HAPPENS. MAYBE I SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN CHEAP AND PAID FOR AIR DELIVERY

at least with Fedex, if you miss a package, you can go to their center after a specified time and pick up with no hassles.

FEDEX AIR> UPS GROUND
UPS AIR > FEDEX AIR
UPS GROUND 3 DAY SELECT > FEDEX AIR SAVER
UPS GROUND > FEDEX GROUND

Fixed it for you.

Oh, and what you're talking about is an isolated incident. UPS is not run like this all over the country. If UPS misses a delivery, you should be able to call, then go to the place to pick it up. Sorry, maybe you should have been home to pick up your package.

FIXED IT BACK FOR YOU.

btw, I GOT 2ND DAY AIR DELIVERY K THANKS

ALSO... why should i have to call them to tell them that i want to pick up MY package? a package that BELONGS to me?

USPS ... don't have to call
FEDEX... don't have to call

so what makes UPS so special that i have to call them to pick up something that belongs to me???

well, i'm sorry that i'm a grad student and have meetings to go to and lab work to do that i can't sit on my butt to wait for a delivery.

i take it you work for UPS?

Good job stating that in your original post. Kthxbye

why do i even have to state i got delivered air?

it shouldn't matter if it's ground or air.

either way fedex has never been late on a delivery while UPS has...

UPS even CLAIMED to have delivered my package one time and i waited ALL DAY for the package...

when i checked the tracking, it said delivery attempted...

fedex... they've delivered my package a day early before...

once again...

FEDEX > UPS

k thanks again ...

why do i even have to state i got delivered air?
Because UPS delivers roughly 13 million Ground packages daily and 2 million Air packages daily. UPS has been delivering ground since the early 1900's. UPS has been delivering Air since the 80's. UPS is known primarily for it's Ground delivery service. So, it was important that you stated UPS Air, since it's popular for people on Anandtech to compare FedEx Air to UPS Ground.

it shouldn't matter if it's ground or air.
Yes, it should. Because when people hear FedEx, they think planes. When people hear UPS, they think truck. It is important that people do not compare FedEx Air to UPS Ground.

either way fedex has never been late on a delivery while UPS has...
For you, maybe. UPS is great for many more. That's one of the reasons why UPS is destroying FedEx right now. Sorry, sending packages isn't like sending e-mail.

UPS even CLAIMED to have delivered my package one time and i waited ALL DAY for the package...
Ok, I'll stop shipping UPS because of your experience... If you've got a problem, call the 800 number and complain. UPS will get better if you complain to them. It takes a while, but they listen. Again, UPS ships 15 million packages daily.

fedex... they've delivered my package a day early before...
Uhh, that was pretty lucky. FedEx Air will hold a 3 day package for a day if it arrives on the 2nd day. Also, technically you didn't receive it a day early. At UPS, if you pay for 3 Day delivery of a package and it only takes 2 days to deliver.. UPS will deliver it in 2 days. In fact, that package will be guaranteed to arrive in 2 days. That FedEx package did not get put on an early flight or anything if that's what you thought (i think that's what you were trying to say)... it was literally only 2 days away (assuming it was 3 day deliver you paid for).

1. when i think fedex and ups... i don't think fedex = air and ups = ground.. i think i saw your post before too where you made some comment about this.

2. fedex saver which means 3 days works like this... you're right when you say it is supposed to arrive in 3 days... but here's the deal.. i go to school in a small town (urbana, IL). fedex packages get sent to Indianapolis if shipped by air. I know someone who actually works at the Indianapolis center and he told me that when something is shipped saver, if there is room on the truck leaving for the location for something taht is saver, they'll take it with them and deliver it in 2 days even if it's supposed to be there in 3. if there's no room, then it'll get placed on the next shipment over to the town.

3. yes, you are right when you say that they will hold a package... they've held a package for a day before (but it was cuz it was delivered on a saturday).

4. i'm not saying you have to stop using UPS... if you use UPS for your business, fine.

5. this post is to rant about my experience with UPS, hence why it's called the OT forum. i'm sure millions of people are satisfied with UPS.

6. i have filed a complaint with the service center and i am supposed to speak to someone from the center tomorrow morning.

2. If it were UPS, there would have been room for all of the 3 day packages. But that should be expected because the UPS network is extremely robust... mainly because the ground and air networks are integrated together. That's the difference between FedEx and UPS.

4. I use UPS, FedEx, and USPS for my business. When I have problems (rare), I call and complain. What I don't do is create threads on forums. It wouldn't help anyone because of the way delivery businesses work (they're huge).

5. Your thread title was flamebait.

2. and the fedex one isn't? so my package gets magically transported from indianapolis to urbana somehow without the use of any sort of ground transportation?

4. then why are forums called "off topic" even created? it allows for people to state what they believe and how they feel about junk...

also, if you feel so strongly about UPS being better (integrated land and air networks, guaranteed 2-3 day delivery, etc), then why do you even use Fedex?

5. you can call it flame bait... i call it an observation based upon my experience...

Would you shut up?

I ordered $10,000 worth of dj stuff from pssl.com, they used to ship ups... a couple of my lights were destroyed, all my boxes looked like hell, and one of my $300 speakers had been nearly cracked in half. I sent it back, guess what they used to ship the new speaker with? Yep, fedex. I also ordered some stuff from them later on to find out they only ship fedex now...

I hate ups, ALL of my packages look like absolute crap when I get them. Fedex hasn't ruined a single package of mine, and I buy a lot from newegg & other vendors who only ship fedex.

You can't say ups has isolated incidents either, they ALWAYS ruin my packages.

Granted I'm sure fedex screws up a lot too, but at least when I get my packages they don't look like they've been dragged behind the truck for the entire shipping phase!

Maybe HATING UPS is a little strong....

but yeah... bad experiences aren't fun... especially getting $300 speakers destroyed...

Man, you guys must have some crappy UPS drivers.........around here, Airborne is the worst at finding our place (admittedly out in the country, but they only deliver out here 3 days a week??? And if the driver doesn't have time, he'll keep the package and try again on Wednesday or Friday....). FedEx is the second worst.........got lost trying to find our house.........strange that the UPS drivers come right up to the door without as much as needing a phone call for directions, and it isn't THAT hard to find us. UPS always comes at 10-10:30AM every day, rain or shine. FedEx......whenever.

At the bike shop, we demand UPS deliveries. Why? After watching $2K bikes being tossed off the back of the FedEx truck, and they look like the truck ran over them a couple of times, we demanded a switch. True, UPS does damage a few boxes once in a great while, but not regularly enough to be a concern.

If UPS were truely as bad as everyone thinks, why did they get so big? Certainly not because of crappy shipping. The drivers are always polite (although I have run into a couple of rather surly counter workers), they take care of any problems immediately and with a smile, and they won't hold a package at the shipment cneter just because it was scheduled for tomorrow's delivery.

Had a UPS driver come out to my house last Thursday in his private car because an overnight delivery package for me missed the truck. He apologized it was late getting to me......11am.

I use all of them......but UPS has always been good for us.

that's good to hear!

i guess it's just a matter of where you live and what sort of drivers / people you have working at the centers...

but let me point this out...

it's a great thing that UPS doesn't hold packages if it's there to deliver... but let's say you missed the delivery...

why do you have to call them to let them know that you're going to over to THEIR center to pick up a package? it's not like the package isn't there... i mean when i showed up at 545 (center closes at 6), the guy at the desk even refused to see if the truck was back... he just said... "call the number, that's all i can tell you to do."

at least you don't have to call ahead with fedex or the usps

on that note...

whenever i deal with anyone on this forum, i only deliver usps 🙂

i think i can safely say, they are the best (at least for me)
