My iPhone is completely dead

Any ideas?

Edit:

I held down the power and home button for 10 seconds and the apple logo appeared. I got ahold of Apple and they said it went into VFU (???) mode because the phone needed to be powered off and then back on. I have never had a phone do this before.

It's DFU mode. If you had hooked it up to your PC in that mode, it say your iPhone is in recovery mode and needs to be recovered.

there are two types of modes - DFU mode (where the iphone is on, but the screen is black) and recovery mode (where it has the itunes logo and telling you to connect it to usb). DFU is usually to bypass iboot, so you can downgrade firmware, and also to circumvent any random errors. recovery mode is to just restore the firmware if it gets corrupted (sometimes).

Try turning it on. Then holding power and home buttone until it shuts down. Let go of power and still hold home button while attaching your usb sync cable. Then do a restore.

The phone is working now. It was doing nothing at all. It would not turn on whatsoever. It would not even be seen in windows. I had to hold down the power and home buttons with nothing on the phone working to get it to boot, which it finally did to an apple screen then it took a bit to fully boot. I asked a coworker of mine and he said he had the same thing happen to him.

Sorry for the long delay in replying, I have been working a bunch. Thank for the replies.

Now is your chance to upgrade to one of those huge models that was announced today. 🙂

Also, from time to time, my iPhone won't turn on and won't charge for hours on end. I have to somehow wait until it completely drains dead, then give it another charge. It's so annoying. I've stopped jailbreaking it because I know it'll eventually need replacement via applecare.
