randomly out of nowhere there is about a 1/4 inch of screen at the very bottom of the phone that does not respond to touch. therefore, i cannot hit the route button, add punctuation to text messages, or hit the spacebar and anything else that is in that bottom area. its very frustrating. i have an original 8gb non 3G phone. any ideas?

i have tried resetting it, updated the firmware. i can't believe i have had this thing for less than a year and i need to buy a new one. my previous track record with cellphones has been perfect. i don't abuse or drop my phones hardly ever.

yea, i've heard of that happening before (not to me though). If you're <1yr its within warranty, just take it to an Apple Store and they'll (usually) swap it out for you after inspecting it.

No don't need a receipt or anything (they can look up your info). Just take it to the Apple store and they'll replace it.
