My iPhone 3GS Jailbreak question

Hello
I have an iPhone running 3.1.2 firmware, as I jailbroke my phone at that time. I used blackrain, cydia, rock. Mainly I wanted to use the "Backgrounder" ability, skype over 3GS, as well as a few free programs that I would have had to pay for otherwise. This has worked well.
However, I recently tried to get a few applications off of the apple app store and it is requiring a new OS. Also, some programs like facebook are having some issues, and should really be upgraded. Also, my wife just got a new iphone 4, so it would be neat to try some of the joint programs.
Is there a jailbreak etc for the newest 3GS OS for my phone? Or does the standard OS support backgrounding etc.?
BTW, is there also a jailbreak for the new iphone 4? Although probably wont use that.

Thanks

The standard OS (5.0.1) does support "backgrounding". There also is a jailbreak for all the devices that support 5.0.1 that are on 5.0.1.
