My Iomega's not a Plextor.... Updated

Well... I finally got my Iomega 12x10x32. However, much to my dismay it is not the plextor drive (two leds).

What to do? The price is still good for a 12x burner, and my local CompUSA no longer has the 12x10s, only the 12x4s.

Will this burner be supported by clone cd? I noticed that right now it does not support sub-channel data and only a couple types of writing.

Any insight into this situation is greatly appreciated.

It seems that all new packaging has the square sealing tape. Both Sanyo and Plextors. I set up my drive (sanyo) and burned two coasters in a row. I took it back to a CompUSA B&M and exchanded it thinking that I would get another sanyo. To my surprise... I saw the pink static bag when I opened it, and it was indeed a Plextor. I guess there is just no telling unless you try.

It's a sanyo rebadged, have you looked for updated sanyo firmware?

I have not yet looked for any sanyo updates... I'm surprised that it does not have at least some of the capabilites of the plextor. I will look.

Could it be a cloneCD problem? It detects the drive, it just says that it is not capable of reading sub-channel...

No luck finding any site with sanyo firmware. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I could use some help here.

Here's the Sanyo Drive Page. They don't have any new firmware listed for the drive now, but when they do it should be listed here on the link for the BP1300P.

You "should" inspect the features of the drive before purchasing. If the drive does not support the advertised features, then you should return it. If not, then you should eat what you took.

Thank you for the strong words, but perhaps you should read a post more carefully next time.

I did NOT say that I didn't get what I paid for, nor did I indicate in any way that I thought I had been screwed.

Instead, I was only asking for input about the drive and any experiences that others have have with it.

It wasn't meant for you then. Too many people in this forum buy things and return them even without defect, as you can see it's suggested before my post in this thread. I wouldn't hate you for doing it, I'm just tired of it being suggested as an appropriate option because it costs all of us when people do that.

You MAY want to go find an earlier production batch and purchase another Io 121032 and swith-a-roo the drives and return the other one. Unless you have a need of two "of the same drive".

Also - side note, this may work it may not. I had the same issue as you (responded in the superlong thread in the Hot Deals forum-check there for more info) BUT I did notice that the "older" (read Plextors) have a round / clear box sticker that seals the box end flaps closed. My "new" sanyo (now replaced with Plex) had a rectangular clear sticker. Don't know for sure whether this %100 or not but if your sanyo has a square sticker I'g go looking for a round one...

upon closer inspection, I see that the tape sealing the box is indeed a square and not a circle. I will check in to this tonight.
