My Internet Host Can't Find Records Of My Payment

I think my hosting company must be run by a bunch of chimps! I recently asked them via email, what my current plan is costing, and how much it would cost to upgrade? They replied that I'd have to "file a ticket in our helpdesk."

After complying, I got a response from their "Accounting Engineer", who asked for my info about what name is on the CC I used, and listed past transactions on my account where automatic bills were canceled, and credits applied. He asked, "if you have any order/transaction numbers for the payments on this account, please provide that information for us also"

My CC company's online statements only go back 6 months. I submitted a request for a statement from a year ago, but do I really have to bother? Am I obligated to prove I paid anything? I don't see any way these monkeys would have continued to host my site without payment of some kind!

Needless to say, I'm going to a different host. Actually, I've already signed up for one!

Suppose my CC company sends me a statement (perhaps the wrong date range), and there is no record of payment. By the time it shows up, I'll already be with the new host. Am I obligated to pay the monkey hosting business for this past year?

Yes. If you have no proof of payment and they come after you...

How are they monkey hosting? If you can't find proof of payment, it appears that YOU would be the monkey.

Their "Accounting Engineer" has no accurate records of anything, as far as I can tell. Most likely, I do have a record of that payment, but WTF do I have to bother my CC company to dig it up? Again, it's not likely they'd have continued to host me without payment anyway. I've already moved 3 sites from their servers, and this is the last. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay double for this last year!

I've already got two accounts on Ultrasurge, and have no complaints at all. It's well run, cheap and reliable!

I'm not so sure about that...it's their fault for hosting them if he hasn't paid.

The burden of proof is always on you. live with it. If you can't prove you paid for it and they have no record - You're screwed if they send a collection agency after you. You'd have to pay it.

A lot of companies still provide you service, even if you don't pay your bill for awhile. They usually cut things off after 90 days, but it's still on you to pay for the service they provided you. That's why places can come after you and report it to your credit for up to SEVEN years. It's still failure to pay either way. He entered an agreement with them for the service.

If worse comes to worse, there WILL be records of payments for other accounts on their site. Then, THEY can prove those payments weren't for this account!

So you have multiple accounts with them?

How did you pay them? if it was by electronic transfer, and any autopayment usually runs like that, then your bank will have record of who the money was transfered to.

The amount I was paying was grandfathered to a low introductory price from a few years ago. I was getting billed via email for the first few years. Then, my CC got charged the full price, without them asking permission to bill it. My TOS did NOT include automatic billing. They canceled that transaction, and billed me the lower amount.

My current request was more of an interest in how much it would cost to upgrade to a 1GB of space account, than to find out the current cost. I don't see a record of any corrispondance in my email from last year, so I assume this was handled via CC or help desk transaction at that time.
