My Internet Explorer Will Only Let Me Save Pictures in BMP format. It's very annoying. How can I fix this? ALl jpg, gif files .. i can only save as BMP. =(

I think you need to install a filter of some sort of converter for it. I remember not being able to save in jpg until I install some converter for it. I think it's included in MS office. Not too sure.

This might be the cause:

Microsoft Knowledge Base

Of course, you mentioned that it's happening to all of the images. What version of IE are you using? Another MS Knowledge Base article (I can't remember which one) said a workaround is to upgrade to 5.5 SP1.

Also, try deleting the index.dat file, it might have become corrupt. It's in your cookies folder (you might have to boot into safe mode to do it).

there is a problem with your cache.

When you visit a page, everything is cached, including the images. If the image is found in your cache, IE will save it as it is, jpeg or gir or whatever. However, if it is not found in your cache, IE will only allow you to save as bmp.

Try increasing the size of your cache. Or if it is already large, lower it.

I had this same problem about a month ago, clearing out the caches worked for me. Glad to hear it's working now
