my internet dies

We've had internet here for over a month now, ATT DSL Elite speed. For whatever purpose, it got put under my fiancee's name. I called them last week to change it to my name for billing purposes. Now it's slow as F***. I'm using the same username same password but i went down to the "express" speed. 768 vs 1.5 with the elite. Thats not it.


The connection drops, i haven't been able to finish ANY speed test online, it starts going, then just dtops downloading, youtube videos get about 8 seconds in and then hang. the one speed test i did manage to finish gave me 7kpbs.. any ideas?

SpeedStream5100 > Airlink 101 > Wireless > Laptop

same setup that i've had for over a month
pages like anandtech load(what else do i need, right?) but anythning like a large file download, or speed test, or streaming video die.

I'd call the provider. Or it could possibly be wireless interference so try it hardwired to get that out of the way.

yep, did hardwired


i've tried using PPPoE on the modem, on the router, there is one more option for bridged mode, but don't know what that is

Not sure what you want us to do? Call your ISP and complain about it, sounds like a DSL issue. You can try power cycling your speedstream modem and see what happens. Also try a continuous ping to like yahoo.com (open up a cmd prompt and type in "ping yahoo.com -t" let it run for a minute or so then hit ctrl + c) and see what the packet loss is.
