My internet access crashes when using google maps

When I zoom in or out too quickly at maps.google.com, my internet connection completely craps out for several minutes. I can't get to any other sites or anything. I'm not sure about general connectivity, but I know browsers don't work. This only happens with google maps. Anyone have the slightest clue what's going on?

This is with Firefox btw.

When you say the connection is down, do you mean that FF is unresponsive, or won't open sites, or do you mean that no other application (IE for example) can get a connection either?

Are you disconnected from the Internet or merely in a queue that results in a delay?

I understand that part - but if you wait does it come back? If so, what is happening is queuing at a very busy site. While you are locked in line waiting your turn, you can't go anywhere else.

Perform your task to make the problem appear, then Start -> run -> cmd -> ping www.google.com

I tried and pinged google this time - while I couldn't get access to the internet (with any browsers, even when I closed them all and opened a new one), when I pinged google I was still getting normal ping times and such.

Remove then reinstall FF. Have you tried this? The fact that you can ping, but your browser is cant find anything says thats where the problem lies. Also, it could have something to do with DNS, try loading a site with the static IP (eg, google is 72.14.253.104).

Edit: It cant be a problem with DNS, since you can ping with www.google.com. Im stumped.

I'm guessing it's a problem with the flash (or java, or whatever google maps uses) is getting overwhelmed and locking up your app. You just have to wait for your computer to catch up on the processing.
