My internal network's down - fixed, now

I had a power failure today. When I rebooted my main machine, the second NIC was "redetected" and the driver load failed. I can't get it to work, I keep getting errors.

D-Link DFE-530TX card.

I DLed the latest drivers, I just can't get the thing to come back up. I've removed the device and tried a couple of times. It almost is as if the driver and the card are not compatable.

My nic to my cable modem is still up and running.

I may have to spring for a hardware router.

My 5 other home machines are now dead in the water because they can't connect to my Q.

You could temporarily take a NIC from one of the other machines and try it in your main box. At least you'd have four up and running if it works.

Good Luck! 🙂

That stinks! One possibility: double-check that it's the NIC you think it is, if you haven't already? I've confused myself before, trying to use the Netgear driver on what turns out to be a Linksys NIC. Good luck!

I am using the right driver. I have a VERY loaded system, this might be a problem with an IRQ as well. I'll dig into it on Saturday, I'll just have to live with less SETI WU's for the next couple of days.

My internet herd can munch off of the Q, just my internal network is down.

Worse comes to worse, I buy a hardware router.

Maybe try deleting the NIC in windows... shutdown... pull out the NIC... reboot... plug the NIC back in and reboot to let windows detect it again... then install the drivers, see if that works...

BCYL - that's exactly what I intent on trying. I'm actually going to swap the nic with another one as well. That's why it'll take until Saturday, I won't have time tonight.

On my home system, every time I've reinstalled or redetected my NIC, Windows ALWAYS gives it the wrong IRQ, so I've ended up forcing that particular PCI slot to the IRQ I want in the BIOS and I haven't had a problem with it for over a year.. Windows should then be forced to use the correct settings for the NIC. You may need to remove the NIC from Windows and redetect it again, but it might be worth a try...

Swapped in a new NIC and now everything is up and running. I have no idea if the original NIC went bad or if it was a software/driver issue, but my machines now all have access to the machine that's connected to the internet.
