my intellimouse mouse kinda freezes every minute or so, HELP

this is getting annoying. i might be running around in counter-strike, when suddenly my mouse stops responding. this happens in rocket arena as well, but i dont notice it when in applications. what can be causing this? it seems to have just popped up after i installed an ethernet card and a cable modem. i checked and the pci to usb shares the same irq as the ethernet card. what can i do?

Is this an optical mouse? And when it stops responding does the light go out? If so, from what I understand the earlier MS optical mice have a short or something in them which causes them to go out. It happens to me all the time but there is supposed to be a phone number to call and MS will replace the mouse. Let me know if this is the problem and I'll try to dig up the number.

yes, it is optical, but the light does not go out when it freezes. my mouse pad appears to be clean as well. this is an older version mouse, but i never used to have any types of problems like this.

yes, the mouse is plugged into the usb port. man, i must have not been thinking correctly when posting this, i forgot to give the details.

well, i used the ps2-usb switch thingy, and i plugged the mouse into the ps2 port. the freeze doesnt seem to happen anymore. i think what caused it is the ethernet card.

i plugged mine into the ps/2 port and it still has the same problem. help.
