My Insurance Agent just pissed me the off big time

I drop by their office to make a payment.

They give me the receipt and then they mail out the check.

Dumbasses put the "bill to address" in font of the envelope instead of the Insurance company's. So they sent me back the check instead of mailing it to them. Now it's a day late and they put a cancellation on my arse.

Called the agent and said just as long as I still mail it in they should renew my policy. Just unbelievable.

If they do cancel , my insurance will be astronomical to the point were I wont be able to afford a car. This means I wont be able to have reliable transportation to work or school.

Could I take legal action because it was the insurance agents fault?

I still have the receipt of payment and the envelope they sent me in the mail accidentally returning my check.

I used to have All State. They gave me a 7 day grace period. They dumped me though because they slipped in a renewal questionnaire I never bothered to return in one of my bills. 3 years with all state, not one violation or accident. Yet the dump me for something so stupid. While im paying out my arse so idiots can speed off road ramps on freeways.

Insurance in New Jersey is terrible. The only other way to solve this problem is to move, but then I would be paying a lot on gas to get to school and work.

And I just made 3 copies of the receipt.

Mail it yourself next time?

I thought the Insurance Agency was suppose to be professional. I was suppose to trust them. Making a payment at the insurance agent is done regularly.

But yes, I will do it myself next time.

Weird-- Usually they have a cancellation period / grace period after you miss a payment where they send you a notice that it will be cancelled in X days.

Consider this scenario:
My dad was in an accident with someone insured by Mercury.
It was thier fault.
They claimed his payment was a day late.
They had already cashed his check.
They refunded his last month's check and said he was uninsured.

Now THAT, is f'ed up.

I dont' understand what the problem is..

You have a receipt that says that you paid. They screwed up and sent the check back to you.

Keep the check (tear it up).. Tell them you have the proof(receipt ) that you paid...

Seems to me that you got a free month coverage.

if the receipt has the date and time, and they cancle your service, i would MOST DEF get a lawyer cuz if you paid in time and such then they have no reason for cancleing your service, I would also get a written statement from your insurance saying why you cancled my serivce(do this before you tell them you have a lawyer) cuz they could just say they wanted to drop you for some reason that can;t be proven false. Thats what i would do. Insurance agencies can be pretty crafty when it comes to getting out of the payment and such so i would cover all the bases.

The insurance company sends out a cancellation notice of "Non payment of premium". So yeah, they wouldn't be able to argue other wise.

And I think Dman got it right. I think they just send a cancellation notice and not a cancellation. I think I have until march to pay it.

So no big deal.
