MY indignation with BFG's Support.

I live in Brazil, and things here are very, very expensive when compared to prices in the United States, usually 4 times the price. So when I went to Orlando almost 2 years ago, I took the oportunity and bought a GTX 280. My main reason for going with BFG was it's life-time warranty. After returning to Brazil, I registered my card and did everything I should in case I needed to use the warranty. Unfortunately my card is now dead, showing artifacts as soon as Windows loads. So I sent an e-mail to BFG, saying that I need to activate the RMA, but for my surprise, they said they were not replace the card. I know they stopped producing cards, but they said they were still continuing to support cards that had been already sold, but it seems this is not the case. I got so mad, but the worst thing there's nothing I can do, as I live in Brazil, I can't even call them! But if I could I would surely sue them for what they have done, this is false advertisement, saying that you will have life-time warranty, but having actually NONE.

Arghhh! What do you guys think? Is there anything I can do?

They can declare bankruptsy, and you will just be listed as another debtor. The debt to you will be discharged.

In other words, there isn't anything you can do.

No "lifetime warranty" outlasts the company that provides it. Company goes, so goes the warranty.

Yeah first it was video cards, then it was power supplies, and now its everything.

The only recourse you have right now is PNY is offering 25% discounts on there cards for former BFG customers.

However, you have to purchase from PNY's website which doesn't offer the etailers discounts.

There is another thread on this right now.

Ahh, só I just lost my video card? Damm. Will try to contact Gigabyte (the video card failed because of a MoBo problem) and make them give me another video card lol. Come on, it is really frustrating to go through this kind of situation.

Artifacts.

At first it was happening just occasionally, and in some games it didn't even happen (Source Engine games were the games when it happened almost instantly). But then it started to get worse, now I get artifacts just after entering windows.

I thought of baking it, but I'm afraid to damage it even more, because maybe I can try to use it as a PhysX dedicated only and it may work...

Is heatsink/cooler clean and free of dust buildup? Could thermal interface material need changing (is it a temp related issue)? Sounds like it's occuring as soon as card gets warm now. Can't hurt.

Or, have you considered a new card? Many USA folks would be happy to help. I'd be happy to buy a card and ship it to you. GTX 460's can be had for $199, USPS shipping to Brazil, $30-$40 maybe? Just some thoughts..

PNY has that promo where they're giving discounts to people with BFG cards.

I don't think it's a temperature problem, as I said, Source games were crashing alot more than others, including Crysis. I played both to test the problem, and Crysis took the GPU much higher than Half Life 2 Episode 1, but even though EP1 crashed much ahead than Crysis. I was monitoring the GPU temperatures, not the Memory temperatures, as I don't know how to do that, but even so I don't think EP1 would use more memory than Crysis...

I feel your pain. I emailed BFG and received a reply last weekend saying that they wouldn't replace my card either due to liquidation for bankruptcy.

Oh well, my computer is 5 years old and I want to build a new one anyway.

Anyone want to buy a BFG 7600 GT in great condition and with lifetime warranty? Just kidding of course.

Sending the card to the USA is alot of work, will test it first and see if it works as a PhysX dedicated, I'll be using my other PC with a ATI 3870 in the meantime.

PNY's Discounts are good, but I'm waiting for a more potent GF 104 card. 460 is very nice, but I want a little more potency, and 470 and 480 aren't considered very silent nor cool...
And I would probably spend more mailing the card to PNY than the discount I'll receive. Don't even think they will accept mails from Brazil, and besides, my friend is going to the USA on Jjanuary, will ask him to bring me a new card.

You know it kills me that when I checked bfg's website the other day it looked like business as usual with no mention of their predicament.

To hire a webmaster to update a website requires money.

no, their failure to sock away enough $$ for the rainy fermi day and their refusal to switch sides and/or sell both cards ala xfx is what doomed them. at leasts imho that's the case. I know that we have a few bfg alums here, I'd be interested to see what you guys think.

They actually tried to sell ATI cards but ATI turned them down. Basically XFX beat them to the punch.

And now it appears that the BFG name has been bought out.
