I bought it at Fry's yesterday for 169.99. Got home and took me four hours to install it. The set up and everything is easy its just that I've been having problem with the screws in my case. Two of them slipped and I couldn't get it out.
The package is very good you get what you paid for IEEE connectors was something that I looked forward to and they have an extra set of it in which I didn't install I figured that I won't really use it. Then bunch of cable all kinds you can think of. The red Seria ATA cable for Serial drives is quite nice looking. It is euivalent to that of round IDE cables but much much smaller I say its only 1/3 the size. Sadly, no Serial Drive available.
The board is set up so the wiring will not obstruct the airflow. I can see that since I was using the same case as my old Abit KT7a and that board had wires all over it. Then I upgraded to this one no wires blocking or overlapping anywhere! 10/10 here.
Then its the screws no worries all of them matches heheh. I didn't have to punch a whole on my case like my old mobo requested.
Stick in my Xp 1700+ and clipped my fan. I make sure this time it doesn't fell off burning another CPU ;D.
512 DDR, I couldn't get my hand on 2x256 Mushkin of Corsair too bad =). The 512 Winbond Red is working nicely anyway running at 2.5t. I will try 2 later today.
Then my AGP card this board supports 1.5-1.7v, and guess what I didn't need to install any PCI because there are DUAL LAN and DSP on the board no need for any extra PCI expansions but they still provided 5 of them. Then LAN are 3COM and Nvidia Lan better than my old linksys.
Connected all drive and HD. I tried to fit my old abit system fan on the huge Asus System passive heatsink but its so huge my screws slipped right thru. I have no idea what kinda fan will fit on it 80mm will be too big :/
Connected the stupid PINS cant there be any better way to do this? I hate the PINS and its polarity ahh.
I started the system and NO! BSOD I cant get into windows because the board says my HD has a virus. Whatever, I reinstall XP and got into windows. The thing is so damn fast I couldn't even see the XP loading screen and I was in.
By the way I still couldn't figure out if this board has RAID or NOT. The menu says raid is provided by the same SiliconImage Chip that provided the SERIAL ATA function. WEll? Where is the raid conenctor? Thats not a drag anyway I can get a raid card anytime.
Eh? I give this board a 9.5/10 I just wanna help all those who having a dilemma between a A7v8x and A78nx get Nforce 2 you'll never go wrong!
One note though: the A7v8x has raid and has the wireless bluetooth in which the A7n8x doesn't have... But a7n8x has dual channel DDR and the DSP.
