My ICQ account got stolen. Any way to get it back?

They changed the e-mail address and the password. I've had this since a few months after icq launched.
This really sucks.

I sold it on Ebay, sorry. "password" was too easy to guess.

This is an ongoing issue with ICQ. Some group of idiots is out there stealing ICQ numbers and has been for a while. Appearently the ICQ system is very easy to hack into and do this with. Not sure what the deal is with this, or why they're doing it, but I posted an advisory about it not too long back when someone took a crack shot at mine too.

Ouch. Those things are actually worth money too. I had two I sold for $20.

I've been doing some reading and it sounds way too easy to steal. I'm gonna sell my last one.

Checked on ebay. Noone is selling it yet at least. Don't even know how I'd prove it was my account if it does get sold on ebay.

Try using their directory. I found an old ICQ number I had using that.

Just hope you still remember your password, and you didn't put in fake information when you signed up.

I've been using trillian for the past year or so. I think I have my old icq program though.

Edit: Found an icq installation from 11/25/02. I can prove I owned it until then at least. Is there anything in Trillian to prove that I owned the account until it was hacked today?

Someone jacked mine before I think. It was weird though. My settings were changed and my info was changed to some guys name, but it was arabic or something! He just took it over Appearantly he msged someone on my list too?? and was talking sh1t or whatever but he didnt speak much english at all. But then I somehow got it back just changed my pass or something.

Found a link for password retrieval and just started punching in email addresses I used to use.

Huh, I tried their search, and not only could it not locate my original ICQ account, it couldn't even locate the one I'm currently using.. stupid icq.

The old password was cryptic thing and it sent that to my old email I used to use. Checked that and at the top of the list (followed by 141 pieces of spam) was the email with the password.
