My i7 920 is running hot

I'm running an Intel i7 920 on an ASROCK X58 Extreme mobo.

According to CPUID Hardware monitor the temp of my CPU is 70 - 75 degrees C and can jump as high as 90C.

I was using a Freezer Pro 13 until I realized the mounting bracket was broke, likely causing poor contact with the CPU and heat sink, thus the heat problems, however after installing a stock Intel cooler the temps are still high. I have ordered a new cooler but that won't be here for a few days.

I'm not sure what else could be causing these high temps. I've already clean the case of all dust and applied new Arctic silver 5 to the stock cooler.

One other odd thing I noticed in CPUID is the -5V voltage is running between -13V and -8V. That doesn't seem right.

P.S I am not overclocking.

For stock that is high, i would wait and try the new cooler and see what happens. Make sure to clean off all old paste and not to apply to much new paste.

Mine will hit 90c under load in the summer but thats with a substantial overclock.

The Tjmax on these i believe is either 100C or 105C so you will be good up to 100C at least.

It's 95*C. In any case it doesn't matter, while temperature can inaccurately be derived from PECI, it is much more direct to just use Distance to TJMax. That way we avoid situations where someone thinks their temps are different than they actually are e.g. above.

OP, HWMonitor reports 10*C too hot. You also cannot compare *C with others, most programs are incorrectly set. (To 100*C) The value you should be concerned with is 15* to TJMax.

I find Realtemp to be the most accurate for these chips, most programs seem to be up to 10C off but realtemp for me has been bang on.

HWMonitor is reporting the same core temps as RealTemp on my machine.

Now, HWiNFO64 reports the following which I don't get(left column is the current, 3rd column is max)

What's the different between Core temp and CPU temp and which one should I be monitoring?

one is probably a mobo sensor under/near the CPU socket on the mobo and one is the temp from the temp sensor in the CPU itself.
