My i7 7700k Has Arrived - Insights, Benchies & Overclocks Inside (Now With Delid!)

Really?! Where did you find this out??? I have a Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI and I was about to get a 7700k. Do you know if this is the case with all Z170 Gigabyte motherboards? If I can't overclock a 7700k, I think getting a 6700k might be a better option.

I think the latest BIOS is just broken. My post comes from personal experience. I cannot push the multiplier of my 7700K up beyond 45 nor can I push memory multiplier up beyond 24. BCLK OC seems to be adjustable, but system fails to POST with any changes.

The new BIOS that supposedly supports Kaby Lake for my board, F20, is completely FUBAR.

Yes. It is much different (and worse!) now.

I contacted them, nothing so far. Very poor customer service.

Gigabyte's initial Broadwell BIOSes for Z97 were broken, too, ticked me off so much that I'm all in for ASRock atm.

Gigabyte has proven to me that I shouldn't buy their boards again. It'll be a while before I consider another Gigabyte motherboard for anything but a budget build.

i've wiped them off my budget list too.. I used to prefer them head and shoulders above ASUS for entry level stuff, but recently i've been utterly unimpressed.. From a H110 board that died for no reason, to an FM2+ board with a vastly under-rated VRM, and slow, clumsy UEFI bios. Both the ASUS equivalents iv'e replaced these with are miles better.

I have a 6700K at 4.5GHz, and it won't go further, neither before or after the update. This mobo won't let me clock 4 sticks of RAM beyond 2533MHz either. F20 didn't make that worse (or better) either.

I ended up getting the Asus Maximus IX Code, which is the one slightly up from the Hero.

It will be delivered around 6:30pm today, so I'll probably do the necessary tomorrow.

I've concluded it's the motherboard (asrock z170 pro4s) that is holding my memory back too, which is what pushed me to get a new z270 board.

DDR4-2800 is the best stable speed with the 7700k and less for the i3 6100 which was using increased BCLK.

I'm pretty sure it's the board that is holding the memory back - i will know for certain once I swap out with the new board.

Looks like it was definitely the board (Asrock Pro4s) that was holding my memory back, as setting XMP wouldn't even post.

Lotta posters -- like me -- seem to have a techno-lust addiction issue. We should start a 12-step program for Anandtech.

I have been quite happy for almost 4 months with the TridentZ DDR4-3200 14-14-14 kit. G.SKILL tells me that while SOME 4-slot configurations may work, they can't guarantee the RAM running at its full spec. So if I spring for a 2x16GB kit, I could "move up," or so I speculate. Does it buy more with a 7700K than with a 6700K?

yes, all CPUs need to be delidded for 5GHz if you running prime or linx with avx.

thanks i ordered the rockit tool and the metal liquid, i have a swiftech h240-x for cooler do you think ill be able to achieve decent temp at 5 ghz ? ill be posting my results when i receive my cpu and tools
