It's funny that righties can bitch about vacation days with impunity but if anyone points out any predecessors accumulated time at the same point in their presidency that's immediately dismissed. Hint. His "vacation day" numbers are comparably low.

What are the actual numbers then? Lets see some real comparison data.

Bush Jr spent just short of 1,000 days on vacation at his ranch or Camp David in 8 years. That is literally a third of his presidency. Don't really need to go much beyond that. But as has been previously said who cares? The business of the country follows the President no matter where he is. There are many valid things to criticize and yet people latch onto this type of nonsense. Ooooh Obama has gone golfing a whole 72 times in 2 and a half years. Who gives fuck? Seriously people need to find better things to bitch about. A round of golf doesn't take all day and doesn't preclude someone from doing any work the entire rest of the day.

I seriously doubt that ANY president post-1960 or so has ever taken an entire day off while in office (including Reagan and GWB, neither of whom were workhorses to put it mildly). Frankly the demands of the job require the President to spend at least a couple hours per day on job duties even on the most "off" day.

Just compare pictures of any modern President upon the start of his Presidency and after. Most of them look like they aged a decade every two years or so. Any President is entitled to any minutes of relaxation he can reasonably grab and we as a country are generally better off for it.

I see it as the opposite. Lefties defending obama... but dogging his predecessor for spending so much time in Texas.

I am all for relaxation by the person who has the most stressful job in the U.S.... but obama's timings of some of his golf outings and other trips definitely leave him open to valid criticisms.

Of course I am speaking of President Hoover, who worked up to 20 hours a day. Trying to sell his policy failures to the people of the United States.

Of course we have to like the recreation President in GWB, after a being a moral midget and a class A idiot, there is something morally uplifting about GWB chopping down all the mesquite on his ranch with his bare hands. So much more morally elevating, to treat vegetation with the same respect he had for human beings while he screwed up this nation far worse than Hover ever could.

The problem with Obama is that he tries GWB policies while somehow thinking it will produce better results.

Many of Hoovers policies were expanded upon by FDR's New Deal.

So which is it? During the Bush years his defenders maintained there is no such thing as a day off for the PoTUS, that his unheard of amount of vacation time was really just business as usual, albeit in an office what wasn't Oval.

But now Obama enjoying some golf or taking the family on a vacation is clearly the mark of a lazy executive shirking his responsibilities in lieu of simple pleasures.

The sooner you make up your minds the sooner people will take your quips seriously.

As for what Michelle said, big deal, as a wife she probably sees him applying himself to all kinds of things every day, be it for his actual job or his duties as a father. A view that indignant posters on the internet can't really appreciate or understand I'd bet. She was trying to be complimentary but didn't think it through.
Someone's wife saying something odd shouldn't be a surprise, Obama should be glad he doesn't have family members telling the press he "isn't much of a thinker" or "The first Jewish president."

I think this whole post is really a waste of time. I mean, I suppose it can be fun to sit back and dissect every single word a politician says and call them out for being hypocritical. But seriously, who gives a damn? (Those who do give a damn reveal a lot about themselves)

We've got bigger problems, and the amount of days/work the President does is very far down the list. This stuff is merely distraction.

The point of the thread is to chuckle; it's funny when the First Lady of the President famed for his vacations and his rounds of golf claims he never takes a day off. No hypocrisy, no serious criticism, no larger meaning, just a bit of humor. Most of us do not begrudge the First Family their time off - as much as President can ever really get time off - but still chuckle when they claim they never take time off.

I can understand that. I don't really think we're headed towards third world status. We may no longer be the world's remaining superpower, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I can't speak for others, but I personally work much better after taking some time off to relax.

This is one of the core differences between liberals and conservatives. We on the right believe that America is an exceptional nation with an exceptional role to play; to us, it necessarily IS a bad thing that America may no longer be the world's remaining superpower. Our nation's wings will simply have to agree to disagree on this point, and although the left seems to be getting its wish (the diminishing of America's power), at least the right can honestly say you'd never have achieved it without our participation. 😀

This country is falling apart at the seams and neither party has an idea how to stop the slide much less fix the problem. It's just a giant dick measuring contest between the D's and the R's to see who can hold the trophy of President, majority in the House or Senate or the deciding seat on SCOTUS. It's a power grab. Not an effort to do anything to save this country.

That is exactly the second trigger for my "vitriol" -- distractions from the very real problems America faces. While you may not have been serious about your OP, there are millions of loons who eagerly lap up such fluff. It fuels their continuous outrage, distracting them from issues that actually matter and keeping them so emotionally overloaded they become incapable of reasoned thought. And their opposition is forced to waste time and effort responding to this crap, helping to ensure that the real corruption in D.C. breezes along unchecked.

People who rally to defend their guy from some good natured ribbing with the kind of vitriol noted above are completely clueless, misguided and blind to the real problem this country faces. I could say the same for others who posted above from the other side. ...
