My HTPC doesn't seem to output any signal for my receiver to send to my subwoofer

My computer is hooked up to my receiver through an optical cable and everything works fine but the subwoofer. I grabbed another subwoofer to make sure but no sound is comming through. My receiver notes that the sub is hooked up through the LFE and the test tones go to the sub as does my cable audio (through digital coax from the cable box). I have tried different audio formats (Multi Stero, DTS, Neo etc) and played with the cross over and bass adjustments with no results (Other than making TV audio very very bass heavy)

I have tried both WMP and Winamp with the same results. I have the audio set up for DTS 5.1 in the realtek HD audio manager although I have tried the 2.1 setting as well.

ffdshow is installed on the PC but I am 90% sure the sub was working when this HTPC was setup in my basement (different reciever and speaker setup)

Any ideas?

Hmmm....I just came across something. I already enabled the LFE but I am wondering if my mixer setting got changed somehow.....

Well, that didn't have anything to do with it. I uninstalled ffdshow and double checked that the sub works with the receiver when we're watching tv

Maybe you connected the speakers to the subwoofer in your old setup,
PC => receiver => sub => speakers
... with that kind of setup the sub "automagically" extracts the LFE content itself.

Are you playing back a DVD for your tests? A music file might only output as 2.0 not 2.1 unless your sound drivers on the PC support bass management.
