Does that sound like a good deal? I may have a voltage fluctuation problem in my house, i've destroyed 5 CRT monitors. Each monitor died in a similar manner: the screen started to flicker in increasing frequencies and eventually they failed to turn on (probably a montior PSU issue). And of course, i've had my antec truepower430 PSU fail. I think i need some sort of protection, but i really dont need the battery backup. Any recommendations?

That's the sort of product you need (there are similar things available from many different companies).

But if it's really that bad, what you *really* need is an electrician to come and fix your house before something catches on fire and burns it down.

New rule...computer ownership must require the purchase of a UPS....it is essential equipment.

If voltage fluctuation is a major problem then you need something with a voltage regulator. Here are some examples.

Battery backup with built-in voltage regulator:
APC Back-UPS RS 1000VA $190

Voltage regulator only:
APC Line-R 1200VA Automatic Voltage Regulator $60

This line of UPS's combine full voltage regulation and a battery backup. These units always put out 120 volts, though it may be getting 109v or 126v from the wall

The average UPS does no voltage regulation. The voltage floats up and down with the feed from the wall, and kicks the battery in when it goes too low. Some may clip high voltage also.

I have an APC rs 800, it gives me about half hour of work time on my a64 3500, x800 pro, 2 hd, 2 burners, etc... I feel so safe when I see lights blinking when its raining or theres wind. Go get one. Its a must if your pc is worth over 1.5 k
