I have this camera. It stopped working with 98SE, and then when I tried it out on XP, it wouldn't work either. If you're looking for a cheap camera whose quality is spotty at best, then this is the choice for you!

If you can afford a few more $$, go elsewhere.

Thanks for the web address, that's very helpful.

I bought one today, for ~$5 (tax and stamps), it's not exactly free, but hey, you don't expect getting something like that for nothing, do you? :)

It's your typical basic web cam, so I have no complaint for the price. But again, I don't ever want to pay more than 5 bucks for this kind of camera...;)

Thanks for support link NETGUY, I downloaded the XP drivers and they worked just fine.
I bought two of the IBM PC Camera Pro's from Outpost.com last April when they had them for 2 for $100 with 2 $50 rebates (free after shipping). The only problem is I only received one $50 rebate (arrived 9/15/2001). I called Xirlink twice and they assured me I would receive my second rebate but I never saw it. I gave up and I'm not going to do business with them again. :|

I've had this camera for over a year running on 98se without any problems. Recently upgraded my OS to XP Pro and it still works O.K. (considering that it's only a basic webcam).

How's the quality of this webcam? For the people who have it, can you post a screenshot?

Can't say too much about quality but I've messed around with a couple other webcams and I noticed this:
"Frame Rate: Up to 30 Frames Per Second"
If the camera doesn't advertise that, then most likely you have one of those web cams that get about 8-10fps POS web cams. For instance, if you are in net meeting and you just view yourself, it will still be choppy/blurry. A good example is the Veo Stingray Free-After-Rebate from staples. It didn't mention the up to 30fps. Another cheapo camera free after rebates was one from Fry's, that sucked to. A good camera was one of the Intel Pro and Intel Home PC Camera...

DOH! (just did a little research and they used CCD lenses which could account for the better image quality and framerate...) Oh well.. buy it anyways, if it sucks, return it! ;)

Thanks for the hot deal.

Just to warn others, the IBM line of webcams is crappy and is not 100% compatible with other software, as their "Video For Windows" support is greatly lacking. It also has great difficulty dealing with low/high/uneven lighting, and of course almost no room is lit perfectly.
If you want something to play with then this is good 'cause it's dirt cheap....but if you really want a webcam, you probably won't be happy with this one at all.

I just picked one up earlier today and am quite pleased with it. mainly because it actually works for my system (Me). had 3 before this one which my computer would not acknowledge when i plugged them in. i think i have really weak USB's if that is possible. But the snapshot button doesn't work.

okay, well it's only *marginally* better than the veo stingray (also was free after MIR)... it's pretty funny because they use the SAME EXACT software, just different name badging. And i was wrong about the 30fps thing, it's all about the CCD vs CMOS, CCD is by far superior for web cams... just MHO... have fun!
