Been wanting to get the weeping tiles and basement seal redone for a while now and it started today, with taking out the big cement deck. I'll be at work while they're working so will only really have pics of in between days.

There was a deck here. It was built to last. Unfortunately one of the leaks was under it. After a day worth of man power, it is now gone. You can see the marks it has left to give an idea of how seriously built this thing was. They really took "a deck is part of the house" literally. It's more like the house is part of the deck.

I had considered doing it myself but by the time I rent all the equipment, consider the tipping fees etc... it was not worth the hassle.

To make it easier I posted it all on my blog so I'll just link to the post:

Thought I would share.

That's a hell of a job red squirrel to do yourself. You're paying thousands for this but it's worth it. Sometimes a project can drag out for too long. It's ok if it's a bathroom that you can close the door to for a few months if you lose motivation but something like that needs to be done fast, and the guys who have the bobcats know how to use them.

But, you know all this which is why you should feel no shame about not doing it yourself!

Just saw your blog. It's great seeing that heavy equipment going hog wild on what you tried to do with hand tools. I trenched with a shovel all the gutters for my house some time ago but just yesterday had to extend one by 30'. Instead of several hours of sweat and labor a guy did it with a ditch witch in under 10 min.

Yep that's the thing too, the pros have all the tools. And the experience. So it goes WAY faster. This would have dragged out for a month or so if I did it myself, and I'd constantly be tarping it so I can get through the rainy weeks. It's been like what, 4 days and they're pretty much done now. Just need to lay down some black earth and I can add grass seed. They'll actually lay it for me, so all I need to do is buy grass seed and spread it, and water it often.

Some more pics:

Lots of pics here:

Quite the job, I'm kind of glad I did not do it myself like I originally intended.

Haha I know eh. There was a huge concrete/steel beam between the two footings too. It looked like it was a wall that went underground but it stopped eventually. Could park a tank on there.
