My Home Insurance rep is an IDIOT!!

In a nutshell:

I've made 2 claims on my roof (3 months apart). 1st claim I believe, just a portion of my roof will be repaired. 2nd claim (hurricane Ivan related), a portion of my roof was damaged. now he's telling me the check I got for the first claim can cover the replacement of my entire roof. Also, there were interior walls and ceilings that were damaged and NONE shall be replaced, just repainted and mildicide treatment (anybody know what it means? TIA).

What pisses me off is the slow response of my agent, and when they responded i feel like they cut corners. I tried to reason out with the guy but he's giving me the impression that his mind is made up. A few friend of ours told us if they don't do what's right, i can file a complaint from BBB or Insurance Commissioner ( did i get it right).

Should I just give them all the receipt and wait for their response or go ahead and file a complaint then inform them? TIA!!!

P.S. In case you guys are wondering, my insurance is FARM BUREAU :|:|

Get a couple of estimates to determine the cost to repair the damages.

The hurricane claims in FL are difficult claims to adjust because you have two or more different occurances. Possibly two deductibles apply beacause you have two seperate losses. Also keep in mind contractors prices skyrocketed and finding a qualified person to write an estimate or make the repairs is very difficult. Three tab comp shingles went from 150-175 a square to 250-300 a square after the storms.

If the your estimates exceed what the adjuster is allowing less the deprecitation and deductible(s) file a supplemental claim. Raise hell. The squeaky grease gets the wheel. Don't bother with the agent. They sell insurance and know very little about the claims process. Deal directly with the adjuster or Farm Bureau claims department. Farm Bureau writes a tight estimate. If your presistent they will pay you to go away or quit calling them.

I have 14 plus years adjusting experience and own an independent adjusting co. I did not work any hurricane claims in FL this year due to the problems associated with four hurricanes and lack of qualified adjusters.

insurance commisioner of your state or your state attorney general would be who'd you'd contact if you could not get anythign resolved, these are sorta like last resort measures imo.

"contractors prices skyrocketed and finding a qualified person to write an estimate or make the repairs is very difficult."

that's VERY TRUE! I have 4 estimates on hand, but since I am after the repair, went ahead and chose the lowest estimate. I guess my insurance didn't pay attention to that.

regarding supplemental claim, is this another form i need to fill out? Roof replacement alone hax already exceeded the check they sent me, so i'll definitely need to do this. YES!!! FB is my biggest pain in the arse right now! I made temporary repairs to prevent further damage when it rains and yet they don't seem to appreciate my gestrue of working with them.

thanks for the advice! I just started calling their claims department a couple of hours ago regarding my 2nd claim and will keep on doing that until they do something about it.:|

If your roof was not repaired after the first hurricane and you made temporary repairs to prevent additional damage. You have lived up to your end of the homewner's policy/contract.

You can argue that the temporary repairs were damaged due to the result of the second hurricane and the all of the loss/damage is the result of the first hurricane and only one deductible would apply.

A supplemental claim is an additional claim for damages under the same claim number requesting payment for damages that were not included in the adjusters original estimate.

Sometimes you don't know the extent of all the damages until repairs are started. IE the adjuster allowed to replace carpet and once carpet is pulled you discover the particle board subfloor is toast.
