AT style, of course!

Let's start things off with

Samsung SPH-I300 PDA Phone
I've been without a PDA for nearly a year now. I can't make it much longer. I'm drooling already and its only the first item on my list! :)

Samsung 240T LCD Display
Dual displays simultaneously. Yummy! Could this be turning into a Samsung sweep? Nah!

ReplayTV 4000
If only the recordings could be pulled off to a PC via the Ethernet port and, say, converted burned to a VCD, this would seem to be the perfect solution. You wouldn't even need to hack the unit for a larger hard drive!

WD Caviar 120 GB EIDE Hard Drive WD1200BB
Well, just in case you needed enough storage for ... a millennium.

Panasonic PT-42PD3-P Plasma Display DTV Monitor
Well, you gotta have something for that big screen experience, right? If I don't get this, I guess I could settle on a Sony FD Wega KW-34HD1 instead.

JVC KD-SH99 Car Stereo
Does anyone else make a better MP3-capable in-dash unit? I haven't heard of one.

OK, I think I'll stop there before I get pinched and wake up.

I'm sure many of you are wondering where the uber-cool computer stuff is. Well, I'm already proceeding with Project Jukebox, so everything I'm listing is in addition (or replacement) of the components of that rig. :)

Anyone out there willing to let me have/borrow $20K or so to fulfill my dreams?

heh, that drive is DVD+RW.. from the DVD FAQ it looks to me like if compatability is your thing, you would want DVD-RW.

DVD+RW appears to be the runner up in the compatability category...

so can you tell me why I should get DVD+RW drives over DVD-RW drives?

Soccerman, you bring up a very valid point. My initial slant on the Ricoh unit was how much faster it performed over the Pioneer in raw numbers. I really haven't thought about the compatibility side. Heck, I hadn't even contemplated making my own DVD videos. I already have a Toshiba DVD player and as long as *my* player can handle DVD+RW, I'd be happy. Granted, I should really look up whether what my home unit can handle. I know it can handle VCDs and CD-RWs (hence my scenario of the ReplayTV and converting my recordings to VCD).

Additionally, there was a mention in the Ricoh review that a simple firmware update may also make this drive DVD-RW. Then again, I may have read the review incorrectly.

Shug and Tex, I'm basing my plasma liking solely on the lone unit I've seen lately at Best Buy. Once these things go mainstream, I'll have to refine my preference. Oh yeah! I saw a 50" Pioneer plasma display at an Office Depot of all places. Now, how many people are gonna buy that unit from OD without checking out a decent home theater/professional ensemble to support it?

Shark and VB, I was trying to keep my list on the techie gadget side. But, you are definitely making me reconsider. Granted I am currently aligning a *lifetime warranty* on *one* particular female. But, I'm not gonna turn this into an OT babe thread.

NTB, thanks for the link. I had it and then lost it.

ARGH! Why was this thread moved? It was intent to keep it in the hardware/electronics domain.

Boo!
