My Heatsink Just Fell Off Of My Cpu

I have an amd64 and my heatsink just fell of of the cpu. i have the computer laying on its side now... the finger things on the socket broke so the heatsink wont stay on... does anyonw know a place that sells replacement moutning bracket things? The brackets can come off, i just cant find a place to buy a new one.

There are some hsf that come with a new bracket like the Zalman 7000.

Heh, I remember back when I turned on a P233 CPU without a HS/F. I gave the old HS/F to a friend for his system and totally forgot. It was toasted quickly. I put it in my corkboard at work.

The Athlon 64 processor has an internal, hardware-enforced thermal protection that will shutdown the processor if it exceeds its maximum specified temperature - this is completely independent from any motherboard-circuitry.

Both lidded and lidless processors provide a hardware enforced thermal protection mechanism. When the processor?s die temperature exceeds a specified temperature, the processor is designed to stop its internal clocks and assert the THERMTRIP_L output.

i heva a gigavyte board. and i am using it to write this reply. its sitting on the side and the heatsink is just sitting on the cpu.. its working, but i want this crap fixed. i just want to but a new plastic retention bracket

For one option, you could get an Alpha PAL8150 and throw the plastic retention bracket away The Alpha bolts directly through the board into the metal backplate under the socket (which I assume your board comes with?). Alpha PAL8150 pics That one isn't gonna be falling off

i love my heatsink tho. its a silnet k8 cooler by themaltake. it idles my stuff at 36 and loads at like 44. i love it.i just want a new bracket thats all. i found a thermaltake one.. says its designed for the vxs-60 or something, think that will work? http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=35-108-039&depa=0
