After today's stage 15 explosion, Alberto Contador proved that he is the best mountain climber in the tour by today's standards. (Nevermind the Lance 10 yrs ago vs Contador today stuff)

After Contador's massacre of the rest of the climbers, Lance gave a valiant ride and certainly coming in 9th place is no slouch of a job for ANY rider on the planet for today's ride, but it just totally crushed my vision of Lance's superhuman abilities to win a stage at will after today.

Now, he *is* actually in 2nd place overall but I think he knows himself best and ultimately he admitted that whether or not he's 2nd best.....Contador is the best, period!

Could he become superhuman again after putting in this year & training for 2010?? Maybe. He admitted that might help, but he'd be another year older & maybe it's simply age that's got him and there's nothing he can do about it.

I can't say I wish he wouldn't have come back because before today, I had visions of him riding just like he has, then leaving Contador behind him like he did with Ullrich in years past, but alas.........it was not to be.

Age definitely begins to effect things like this. I feel that Lance is on the downward slope. That's ok, it happens to the best of us. As you get older, your body's ability to cope with severe stress like a several hundred mile long bike race really starts to diminish. He was and is a great cyclist. However, the best of Lance is in the past.

Huh? 2nd place isn't still at the top of your game?? "Look, that loser can't do any better than be recognized as the 2nd best rider *in the world* He should have retired when he was still 1st. 2nd isn't good enough."
 
Today was the beginning of the Alps, and it was also the easiest climb. The mountain stages aren't over - Lance can still come out on top.

It was the easiest climb and Contador won the stage. You realize that LA lost over a minute on this "easiest climb."

It's more a question if Lance can hang on to a podium spot. His yellow jersey hopes are basically over unless Contador withdraws.

Contador has proven himself to be the better/best climber twice already, and he did better in the first time trial (granted, it wasn't flat like the last ITT is). Astana is Contador's team. He has rightfully taken it, and LA will be working for AC.
 
It ain't over yet. DOn't write Lance (or a few other riders) off yet. Contandor has to rebound still, and there's a lot of miles (and hills) to cover. Man Astana is an impressive team though.
 
You guys need to get over Lance. There is only one situation in which Lance will have Astana behind him: Contador will have to disappear.

Contador is an explosive climber. He did the same thing in the Pyrenees over a week ago, leaving Lance in the dust, and I had a feeling then that it would set the stage for the next couple mountain stages. I didn't hear his interview after the stage win by Contador today but I don't see any way that Alberto Contador can lose this Tour de France now with a 1 minute 37 second lead over Lance Armstrong.

This will be Contador's second Tour de France win...of course, there is 1 more week of riding and two more days in the Alps.
