I'm trying to help someone with her computer problem, but when I get the computer, I find that there is nothing wrong with it. I call her and tell her that it's probably her monitor or maybe a bent or broken pin in the cable, and tell her to download some driver and bios updates from the manufacturer website because it just ought to be done (not related to her problem, though.)

She emails me back with the following:

Thank you. ^_^
So that stuff doesn't get updated when the computer does
it's own checks and updating? Silly confuser.. er
computer.
I was thinking about the time that the computer was left
on and of and I was wondering, if it over heats would it
need something reset? We left it on most of the time (I'd
play for a few hours, leave it on for my character to
sell items, then he would play City of Heros for a
few hours when he got home from work and leave it on to
update when he was done, then I'd play my game again a
while after that, pretty much. lol)
It wouldn't have still been over heated the last few
times I tried the power button (I only tried once or
twice a day the last few times), but I was wondering if
there was a circut breaker or something that might have
re-set while it was unplugged for a day or so.
Or could it have been a static charge in the computer?
Using a different outlet is suposed to fix that I've
heard, but maybe I got more static when I was carrying it
to the kitchen? lol
Oh well. I'm sure it'll do the same thing again once I
get it back. =P

Side note: I'm *not* asking for any help. I am just going to give her the computer back in a few days (she lives a couple hours away, so someone is picking it up for her.) I just thought her email was funny. I had to read it about five times to figure out what the hell she was babbling about. Life is just one magical mystery tour for her. Wheee!

Heh, at least I didn't have to disinfect her computer this time. She's one of those naive people that thought Gator and Bonsi Buddy (or whatever they were called) and stuff like that were just fun little harmless toys. Her husband had to put his foot down and run a spyware checker every few days until she got the point.
