My HDD's free space goes up and down ~15-GB

The free space on my HDD show anywhere from 165GB to 145GB... Is this normal? Seems like it changes a lot when I use Vista's defrag.

I just reinstalled Vista and have less programs (data) on the drive then I did before the reinstall. I reinstalled because I had HDD problems/Memory Problems... Everything seems to be working now. I left the Windows.old file on there but have removed it via disk cleanup after moving some files to the new installation.

Anyways, I was just checking to see if this was normal.
