My HDD started smoking could it be a faulty PSU?

Right there on the circuit board. could it be the power supply unit that caused this? its a cooler master 460W elite.

This happened when I took apart my PSU to clean it and put it back on the PC just won't boot at all for some strange reason. When I pulled out the cable from the HDD suddenly it booted.

The HDD was kind of resting on part of the case and I am not sure if something touched 2 points on the metal of the case and caused this to smoke?

its currently running fine I pray nothing happens to my SSD or anyother parts of my PC
could I have done something wrong when I was cleaning and reassembling the housing on the PSU? I used a clean new paint brush

the HDD was a old Hitachi deskstar from another PC that used to give same issues where there would be no power when you press the button but I don't know if this same HDD was the reason for that or what.

was it off???Not only the hdd is fried.you better check the psu out of the case.Lucky if nothing else is toasted

it was off and I turned it on and I literally saw smoke coming from the HDD mainboard where the diode is.

Since then it seems to be working fine.
