My HDD has recently started chirping

It's never made that sound before, it can be heard distinctly over the fans in my rig. Sometimes the bird chirps will go on at 3-4 chirps every minute for a few hours and then completely stop for a day or two and then start back up. I'm guessing this should be cause for worry 🙁?

does Letterman still have Stupid Pet Tricks ?

if it just keeps chirping, i'd be worried.

if it starts humming & singing, i'd call Letterman.

but SERIOUSLY - if you don't have a back-up, i'd make a back-up. yes it is cause for worry.

Did you open up your case to make sure there isn't a bird living in there? 😀

rofl, ok but really, after some searching it seems the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 has a known problem many call the "chirp of death." This is ridiculous..

Whether I purchase a internal or external HD, if I move all the videos/music/pics/etc I want to keep it should be safe from whatever fate lies for my current HD?

I'm deciding between these 2
