Not too familiar with the Maxtor model numbers, what size drive and RPM is that? The new generation of 80GB platter 5400 RPM harddrives run extremely cool in my personal experiences.

All 7200 drives run fairly warm.. hehe but try a SCSI 10K or 15K drive.. very toasty.
I see they have fans that lie flat over the drive now to cool it off, as well as separaters between your drives as well.
I'm actually interested in finding something fairly good to cool drives too.. heh maybe I'll try water cooling, I see they have one that will cool the cpu as well as a drive or so.

Scared the crap out of me when I saw 60 C :Q But then I saw that my CPU and HD were running at 36-37 C as well. Can anyone tell me what that first reading is for?

It will find any sensor on your board. Sometimes an unused one will give a funky reading. You have yo play around a bit to figure out which is which.

Put it in a drive bay as far away as possible from the other drives to improve air circulation.
