My HD died on me

Cogman

So I lost my primary trusty WD 160 GB hard drive today. Sad deal.

Any recommendations for a new hard-drive? I was thinking about a Samsung 1TB spinpoint T

🙂 you have no idea how tempting this is.. I mean, 1TB for under $100, I think I spend $70 on my 160 GB HD.

Samsung and WD Black are both good.

I just RMAed a couple Seagates this morning.
And one was a replacement they'd sent me that was defective :|
There was another Seagate a couple months prior i had to get replaced as well...

This.

Had a Seagate die on me a few weeks ago. Waiting for their replacement to arrive so I can sell it and put the money towards an RE3 or maybe even that pretty new RE4.

hell buy 3. get a 300GB Vraptor and 2x 1TB F1s and raid1 them for storage, then put apps + OS on the Vraptor in 50gb/leftover unless you're running ultimate, in which case allocate 60gb to OS. if you care about backing up your OS partition or your apps partition, set aside equal amounts of space on the RAID1 and use something to back the OS and/or Apps/image the drive regularly into the other partition so if you have any issues or the drive dies or something else bad happens or it gets hit by lightning through the wall somehow you can just RMA it or buy a new one and not loose your system 😀. Dont worry, it's not that complicated

My first WD Black was bad, RMA'd and was good to go. Have a couple more at work for backups and no problems there.

Always hear good things about Samsung too.

Definitely Consider 2 HDDs -- one can even be an eSATA or USB Drive.

Nothing worse than losing files you have been working on.
I used to have Drives die on me with all my CDs (~200 of them) in FLAC!
What a waste of time. I now use RAID 6 to prevent having to rerip them (at least due to drive failure).
