My hardrive is whining

My harddrive started to make this high pitch noise a couple of days ago....
has anybody else ever had this problem? This sux, i hope i can get warranty on it.

I bet its a Maxtor? Maybe older 60gb? Its more common in Maxtors and on older HDD's.

I think it will be fine but if its still under warranty I would RMA it just to get rid of the sound.

I've had Western Digitals do that aswell but not as much.

I vote for IBM.

My IBM HD in my other pc whines at times. I hit the pc and it stops whining for a bit. I NEVER keep anything on that system that I don't mind losing...

I've had 4 friends with the same IBM GXP HD's ALL fail. That is just scary...I've had 3 WD HD's die out on me also...SEAGATE will get my next HD business.

We all bought the HD's as it was 'fastest' and the 'faults' were not found out until later...

5.8 GB, that sound's like it's from about '98, maybe '99. That's about 5-6 years old.

Anyway, I have a 1 GB Maxtor from '94. I even used it for several years in a crunching machine recently. It was extremely slow, but the HDD speed didn't matter, and it worked like new (slow). 🙂

It's a western digital...i sent them a e-mail asking if its under warranty but they still havn't gotten back to me yet -_-
