I got a weird problem today on my computer. When it play a video, it freeze and so I need to reboot it and I notice the boot up screen say that HDD SMART is damaged and told me to recover and replace and refuse to boot into windows.

I went into bios and turn off SMART and it boot into windows just fine. However, is this a sign that my boot drive is failing?

No clicking sound, however, when I run speed test, under smart, under one of the Unknown Attribute has a negative sign in front of it, value is 25 25 99 and raw is 00000000004B and I did a short test and it say suspect handling damage. What does that stand for. I already start my data backup to my secondary drive in case it completely fail soon.

Sounds like a problem I had with a 120GB WD. SMART was turned off in BIOS, but I got SMART notices on boot that there is a problem. I was able to recover most stuff, but not ALL. Immediately back up your got to have files & do a long test using the free SeaTools software.

Once you've backed up important files, you can run the disk maker's diagnostics program and can also take a look at the Windows System Event log, looking for recent disk-related errors. To find the System Event Log, seach Windows Help and Support for "System Event".

Since the smart test fail, would it be safe worth it to format it and send it back to manufacturer for rma, the drive is cover for 3 years according to newegg and manufacturer is Samsung.
