So i updated my bios and restarted my computer and i smelled some smoke. Thought it was the power supply so i changed it with another one and i notice flames coming out of the side of my hard drive! I took the hard drive out and see a little bit of the chip burnt. Think newegg will let me RMA this as an excuse for a bad HD?

rofl yes i dont think hd should start on fire i woulda let it burn my whole comp so i could get a new one 😀

I mean it couldnt of been the power supply or anything else right? This sucks =\ I want my money back!

Cool i will put it back in and make it burn then =)

j/k

i would do it with this comp no doubt. if everyone at these forums pay me one dollar once i reach 500 i will chucks this comp on the ground from a 2 story building and post it on the internet 😀

man...

First it was a bad case because a light was broken, next a bad motherboard, next possibly bad memory and now my hd goes up in flames wtf is going on!

Sounds like your PC is cursed. Burn the whole thing and buy a new rig.

Out of interest, what make of HDD?

My guess is Seagate since I just noticed my 80GB SATA drive has burned one of the little black box things on the pcb. I dont think its a resistor because of its size? I dunno, its just barely hanging on now...

EDIT:
Posted at the same time! Man don't tell me its the WD Raptor! I just bought one on newegg to replace the seagate!

ya that is correct it is baked!

The whole chip aint black, it caught on fire for like a second and like a half an inch of the chip is burnt.
