My hairline is starting to receed

This really sucks. I'm 20 1/2 and my hairline is starting to receed a little bit in the top corners of my forehead. The hair is starting to thin out. I knew it would happen because my grandpa is practically bald and my dad has a full head, so it skipped him and got passed down to me, but I just didn't expect it to happen so soon. And it just started the past couple of months...I shaved my head during the summer and the hair in those areas grew normally....I just noticed it after my last haircut this week. (Went from eyebrow length hair to a nice crop) Anyone else relatively young have the same problem? And does that Rogaine crap work? I'd like to have a full head of hair until I at least turn 35 or 40...settled in....then I know I'm old and I won't care.

try the rogaine. if you're losing a lot of hair pretty quickly, maybe check with a dermatologist about getting some propecia or something

Mine started when I was 18. Shaved my head, and it never grew back fully. Rogaine won't work on a receding hairline. It's more for the baldness that starts in the back. You're SOL.

Rogaine also makes you lose hair when you start using it and when you stop using it you risk losing all the hair that grew.

Depends on what color your hair is. I'd reccomend a complete Crayola marker set, so you can mix colors to find the one that most closely matches your natural hair color.

If you are going to do anything to try and keep your hair, do it now. A lot of the stuff that's out there has a much better chance helping you keep what you still have as opposed to growing it back after it's lost. You also might want to check out this site & its forums:

I'm 25 and noticed my hair was getting a little thinner up front about 4 months ago. Started using Rogaine and Saw Palmetto shortly thereafter and have had fair results I think. No real noticeable change in appearance, but I now shed MUCH less hair than before I started using anything. Hopefully it will start thickening up a little soon, but even if I just halted the thinning before it really got started I'll be happy.

Ameesh - it is? I know my mom's dad died when she was 11 and he still had a full head of hair....her two brothers (my uncles) both have slightly receeding hairlines but they're in their 40s.

Thanks for the encouragement guys

Gonad - thanks for the link!

shave your head🙂 and never ever comb over.. i've seen some horrendeous examples. then again you cna look at it as nature encouraging you to get out there and find your mate fast! 🙂

Yeah go out there and propagate baldness. Remember, misery loves company. Instead of having a full head of hair, he'll have you as his father whom he can thank when the sun glares off of his Chrome Dome when he's in his late 20's

That won't happen as long as the mother doesn't carry the gene for male pattern baldness.. so get out there and start breeding LOL

It started at like 16.5 for me and not it's pretty noticable if you look down on my head. Don't really care though, it's not really noticable since i shave my head. If it ever becomes a problem i'll just get a hair transplant or something. Who cares?

If you are going bald, don't be slef-conscious. Most women will not find it unattractive, unless you act embarrassed about it. If you are confident and bald, they will WONDER (in a good way).

Hair today gone tomorrow..get yourself a cordless shear clippers and bring it down to skin every other day. Just think of all the money you'll save on combs and hair cuts...I was a skin head at 20 and still shining.😀
