get a softer toothbrush, or stop pressing so hard. Either you have gingivitus or you are brushing your teeth wrong :)

actually, this is very likely...... i do tend to brush them too hard, and i don't use the standarad circular motion that is "recommended"

but the weird thing is, this is only recently that this has started to happen.

Same toothbrush.
Same brushing style.

mine have always done this everytime i brush(for as long as i can remember anyway). My dentist said that i needed to "toughen up" my gums, and to get a hard toothbrush to brush my gums with.

I think he is a drunk.

See your dentist about this. That should be obvious.

My gums used to bleed all the time after brushing, but that problem has virtually disappeared since I switched from a manual toothbrush to a Sonicare.

I hate it how the dentist pokes around in there with a really sharp hook then says all surprised "Your gums are bleeding."

A couple of things my dentist told me:

* First, the others are right, you are brushing too hard.
* That normally means you don't do it right...
* Flossing is good, but normally not the cause for bleeding gums
* Although instinctively you would do the opposite, especially when your gums bleed you need to brush them nicely.

Advice on top of everything: Get one of those rotating electric toothbrushes. I have used one forever, and the lack of cavities and my cleaner teeth are well worth it. Oral B plaque control is the one most people I know use, but I am sure there are others.

Electric tooth brush: $40
Dentures: $5,000
That smile on your face: priceless.

Edit: Oh and yeah - what the other guys say: See your dentist!!!!!!!

I actually have the same problem, as I went to the dentist today. I got a gum stimulator that I basically floss and massage the gum with it. This is cause I don't floss, heh.

yep my dentist said you need to toughen up the gums. You do this by taken your toothbrush and inserting the bristles a little in between the tooth and gum and then massage round and round. Sorry it is hard to explain but I hope you get the jist. You do this evernight for like 20-25mins total I do it while watching tv.

Another vote for the electric toothbrush. My gums don't bleed anymore. My dentist says they massage the gums, which makes more blood go to the gums. The increased bloodflow kills the bacteria. It's one of the best things I've ever bought.
