My gum is swolen

Any ideas of what it could be and/or how to get rid of it? It kills like a mofo whenever i touch it, and it gives these constant pains all the time. If i don't move my jaw or mouth at all, it doesn't really hurt, but if i touch my right cheek, it stings like hell. i ran my finger across the gum on my upper jaw, and all of a sudden it's like a big swolen bump there. 🙁

we're going to the dentist on saturday, but i want to know what to expect...i really hope it's nothing major. I've been washing my mouth out with salt water for the past few days, but doesn't seem to be helping.

iburprofen helps.

Probably an abcessed tooth, requiring a root canal (not too bad really). Or if you're lucky maybe it's just inflamation between tooth and gum from not flossing.

that's what i was afraid of 🙁

i had the same thing last week. it was an abcessed tooth and i had to get a root canal. it was fine. not too bad. they will just give you some antibiotics and let the tooth drain then fill it.
take motrin. the dentist said thats the best for tooth pain.

It's most likely an infection.
Whether it's due to a tooth problem or not, only the dentist will be able to tell you.
Either way, antibiotics will probably be prescribed and they will help with the pain and swelling very quickly.

I just had this occur last week. It was in the gums around where I had recently had a root canal redone due to recurring infections in the tooth. If I have any more problems, I'm just going to have them pull the tooth.

Could just be a mouth ulcer.
Or it could be an abcess.

Since you said it doesn't hurt when you don't move your jaw, that suggests an abcess.
Both can hurt, I had an ulcer right at the back of my mouth so whenever I moved it hurt, but if it was still, it didn't hurt.
I had an abcess which stopped hurting when I had cold water in my mouth.
