My GTX is b0rked!

Recently tonight while playing FEAR my screen froze with scattered rectangular shapes plastered on my screen. After a reboot (without a critical error windows report) i restarted fear. Same thing happened again 2 minutes into the game, reboot, restart fear same thing and so on. I also tried SWAT 4 and i get the same problems so i assume its the card. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Do you think this is deffo the card thats broke?

Cooling issues probably, check the temps.

Cooling apears to be fine. I use a zalman im getting around 65C on full load.

Is it on properly? That could be overheating. Otherwise, are you getting enough power to it?

I assume so, its been running perfect untill a hour ago. I was playing fear without issue and it just died. I'll post a image of the display.

If i leave the screen with the garbled display the machine reboots and this is the error infomation thats shown.

I don't think you mounted it properly. It should be cooler than 65C. My 6600GT was at 60C load, and then I remounted the cooler (same cooler as you), and load temp is now 55C. Problems won't happen right away either, it'll sometimes take time.

EDIT: what are you using to check the temps?

Im using the Nvidia control panel to check my temps that come with the drivers. Ive been using this card for 2 months with this heatsink installed. It idles around 42C i dont think its a mounting problem but i'll check. Also i alt and tab out and check my temps its around 58C before it dies.

The blur is due to my camera but you can see the corruption.

Use Riva Tuner to check your temps. The nvidia control panel isn't that accurate. Also, by the time you quit the game and get to the control panel, your temps have gone down ALOT.

Does riva tuner record the temps in a log? Because the temps will still go down when i alt + tab?

Yes, Riva Tuner will log your temps. Give it a try. How long does it take for the problem to occur when your playing a game? Is it right away or after a few minutes?

After a few minutes. The card has worked fine up untill tonight. Check the photo i took.

Rivatuner reports highest core temp 89C at full load. This is high i know however i could not reproduce the problem during swat. Its only when i alt + tab back in i get the error however this is not the case in FEAR which does not need alt + tab to display graphical corruption. I think this may be a faulty memory chip onboard. Im using tweakmonster memory sinks to cool the memory with arctic thermal adhesive. Does anyone know how to remove this stuff becuase i'll need to RMA this card?
